Model Y - My first 30 days

It is crazy to me that I haven’t visited a gas station in over 4 weeks and am driving just as much as I usually do during the same time period.  I'm enjoying driving alot more too. Filling up a gas tank has beem  a routine in my life — ever since my I got my first truck over 20 years ago. I estimate I’ve payed around $42,500 dollars in fuel, cost adjusted for inflation, in that time period. God knows how much pollution I created during that time period. Most of the time I was driving alone too.

I live in Portland, Oregon - where electricity is relatively cheap compared to other parts of the country. At this rate, I  will drop my my annual fuel costs by 75% and to top it off --  Electricity is just cleaner and cheaper. I do think we need more electric charging infrastructure built out in the US. I like a company called ChargePoint  and they are  building up a impressive charging network around the globe (an alternative to Tesla) and an interesting electricity as a service business model.  Think of it as gas stations for an electric future with apps on your phone. Their growth is aligned perfectly with the growth of electric vehicles worldwide --maybe too much so. Their margins are low but they can probably differentiate with some intelligent software and the data hey collect about people's energy consumption habits.  At home -- I’m using a NEMA 14-50 to charge my car and although it's not a supercharger — it can easily get me 300 miles of charge overnight. I don't drive more than that a week to be honest and it's working out great and so much cheaper than $4-5 dollars a gallon.

On the product and feature side, Autopilot is growing on me and I’m about to activate the Autosteer beta and loving it. It’s a true software defined car and they are timing and pushing software and capabilites regularly right to my vehicle. (See screenshot below)

On the SAAS business side — I’m appreciating the amount of up selling and cross selling that Tesla is positioned for by haviig this screen and computer in a couple of million vehicles. Today I saw a subtle Full Self Driving preview button on my Autopilot screen that was a gently nudge to experience and ultimately buy the FSD product for $10,000. They also gave me a year of free internet in the car which is another subscription service waiting to potentially take off. The world is rapidly shifting to an internet of vehicles much like what happened in 2009 when Apple and Google laid the foundation to connect the planet with smart phones.

Lastly -- I just read that  used Model Y’s are selling for 15% higher than new ones .. I think all used car prices are up. The car is appreciating - at least in the near term. This car is going to be the best selling car in the world. I'm convinced of it. See you on the road.
