Swimming upstream

We flew in my parents for a week to celebrate my mother's birthday. We rented a rustic cabin near Mt Hood to relax and spend some time together. I am happy to say my mobile was out of range. It took all of us (except Scrumpy) a little while to slow down our pace to the forest.  Besides relaxing, we went on a great hike with perfect weather along Trillium lake and took these pictures.

On our last morning we were fortunate enough to see our first wild salmon run. Hundreds of fish returning  to the rivers where they were born to spawn and complete their cycle of life. It was beautiful and sobering to watch;   I couldn't help but think about my own existence as these amazing creatures swam upstream and struggled against the current to return home and spawn.
