wabi sabi

This past week was fairly intense - in a very good way. Besides all the long hours - spending time with the global team for a week of planning was a memorable experience and the level of detail and transparency that the process enabled was astonishing. It was both exhausting and invigorating.
In other news -- I added a new buddha to my collection. It is green marble and I'm not sure of the age - however it is hand carved and in my opinion a nice addition to our home. I am sure I appreciated it more after coming up to speed on wabi sabi -the Japanese aesthetic on the inherent beauty of things that are imperfect and transient. I think I see the hand carving in an entirely new light having scratched the surface of this aesthetic. Some adjectives used to describe wabi sabi include irregular, intimate, unpretentious, simple, and earth. The notion that "nothingness represents potential" - made me appreciate the fact that this piece emerged from a peice of stone. The best anecdotal summary of wabi sabi that I've read was the acceptance that all things are either devolving toward , or evolving from nothingness. " I'd like to see the tea ceremony again with a wabi sabi pair on lenses.
