Happy Trails
The weather this weekend was nice and not having connected my television in Oregon yet... the world outside seemed like a great place to engage myself. I have put off connecting cable tv to focus on work among things (I do have internet access) and there are moments when I miss it and moments like this weekend when I don't.
We drove up I-84 to the Columbia River Gorge to hike some trails to Multnomah Falls. The gorge is a river cannon on the banks of the Columbia river between Oregon and Washington. The river is quite extensive and the gorge was the site of lots geological activity throughout history. You can get a sense of the geological significance of this area if you just look around the trails and observe the unique rock formations; it is quite unique The trail was a 1/2 day hike and afforded some unique vistas of the gorge. It felt great being there. The mist from the Falls is a great feeling on a sunny day and relaxing on the banks of the tributary that lead to the falls is calming and quite fulfilling. It is the little things. After the trail we drove to the top of Larch Mountain and for the first time I was surrounded (with an unobstructed view) by 5 mountain peaks -Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson. I reached for my camera and then it hit me -- there is no digital SLR, pixels or lens kit that can capture this -- You are wasting your time. I shoved it back in my pocket, sat on the bench and soaked in the 360 degree view of these 5 peaks. WOW.
Oh yeah...Mt St Helens blew her top off that last time - she must have been awfully mad.
