A few words on Black Holes

Stephen Hawking describes a black hole as a set of events from which it is not possible to escape to a large distance. Cambridge describes it as a region of spacetime from which nothing can escape, not even light. Kind of like running really hard but not really getting anywhere. I am convinced the world is full of black holes -- so be careful where you step. That definition helped put a few things in perspective for me about my former life and things to watch out for on the road ahead.
OSCON was this week and lots of open source advocates and developers where here in oregon. I was drinking a locally brewed beer in the exhibit hall and looked up and guido van Rossum was looking right at me doing the exact same thing as I was. I even sent him an email to make sure it was really him and he confirmed in his reply. The state of the onion resounded themes of growing up, family, and community; The Adams Family slide was especially funny. I sat through that one for you -- Lincoln. Still no idea when Perl 6 is coming out ! Microsoft even attended and attempted to give out T-Shirts that said "snowballs have been sighted in hell".
I went to see Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young in Washington on Friday night and these guys can put on one heck of a show. Thanks to Ryan for making it happen and inviting me out to see the concert and to think these guys actually played at Woodstock (with Hendrix etc) amazes me. I have never seen anything like it and this type of music is a disappearing art form.
