The Year of the Dog
There was a chinese new years event at work this week and I learned that the "The Year of the Dog" has officially started. I was reminded of this this morning by a graphic on a search engine. Sometimes I wonder if it is the year of being dogged, but I digress. The chinese calender in fact pre-dates our gregorian and it measures time in a slightly different way than we do. Measures time .. that made me about an email I received yesterday and just how long humanity has been using calenders as some relative measure of existence and how sometimes we think and talk about it in absolute terms. I suppose it is difficult not too in light of how our minds function and although I have never heard of a place where the primitive of 'time' is not a part of daily life - I certainly have been to places where 9:00am sharp doesnt mean 9:00AM by Western standards. The olympics start in Torino in a week or so too. The world could use some fun and games in the snow right about now. Maybe even a snowball fight or two.
Happy New Year Everyone.....
