Where's Waldo ....

My mentor got a transfer to Madrid and a big promotion at our firm and I received an email from him yesterday. He has visited Amsterdam and it sounds like he is enjoying his time abroad. I told him that I loved the Rijks Museum http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/index.jsp and that he was lucky to work and live abroad. What a grand city. Part of me wishes that I could join him in this new adventure.
Speaking of Amsterdam reminded me of one of my favorite paintings by Vermeer called "The Little Street" that I first saw at the Met in NY and eventually at it's home in the Rijks Museum.

Most of the artists in the Delft were very attentive to lighting and painted pictures that appear almost like modern day photographs; Mind you -- the camera had not yet been invented. These bricks almost look like they are a photograph and they were painted in the 17th century !!!
Hurricane Katrina Update
The worst of Hurricane Katrina seems over but the region is dealing with a major cleanup effort, thousands of homeless residents, rising flood waters, and a rescue effort that is further complicated by widespread looting. Tragedy unfortunately brings out the worse in some people. On a lighter note , I read an article that a bar was open and serving up drinks all nite long in the French Quarter during the hurricane. I find that fascinating !
Here is an excerpt of the article ...
BAR WAS OPEN
''It's not as bad as Mardi Gras bad,'' offered Ken McCorkle, 43, a French Quarter resident walking up Monday afternoon to Johnny White's, a bar that remained open around the clock before, during and after the storm. Dozens of people spilled out onto Bourbon Street with plastic cups of cold keg beer from the bar, one of just a handful open in the French Quarter on Monday afternoon.
''I guess we did such a good job of getting everyone so drunk last night they didn't realize there was a hurricane going on,'' said Cliff Burnham, who manages Snooks, another Bourbon Street bar that opened Monday soon after Katrina's winds slowed to tropical-storm status.
You Gotta love it . I'm sending some more Positive Vibes to everyone effected by this storm. After the rain - the sun will shine.
